Council Attends UBCM 2016: Key Highlights Day 1

Council, Jr. Councillor Stacia Panko and CAO attend 2016 UBCM where they will meet with 5 Ministers and the Premier about important issues to the communities future.

First day – Council attends session on  Forests Policy Decision Making: The Case for Greater Community Consultation and Engagement
The session was lead by UBCM Community Economic Development Committee; where perspectives on Forest Policy Decision Making – the results of the UBCM Forestry Survey Report was presented
The Assistant Deputy Minister, Forest Sector, and Assistant Deputy Minister, Resource Stewardship Divisions, Ministry of Forests, Lands, and Natural Resource Operations, representatives of the Forest Industry – provided their response to the survey results.
The Assistant Deputy, Chief Forester gave an overview of her role, this was followed by a Q&A.  The ½ day session was concluded with a Round Table Discussion on “What steps can (communities/industry/province) take to improve consultation and engagement opportunities with respect to forest policy decision-making.

Council met with Minister Fassbender re: grant submission for New Build Canada – Small Communities Fund to construct a new well for residents of Clearwater. This conversation was well received. During the meeting Minister Fassbender presented Council with an approval letter for Nighttime Leakage and Water Metering Study in the amount of $10,000. This is 50% matching funds.
